The Technical Audit: Why Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s Bat-Swing Faces a Structural Test in Manchester
A Rajasthan Royals teammate casts doubt on Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's style ahead of the Manchester T20I. Inside the technical analysis of his bat-swing.
I've covered a variety of moments of highs and lows within the Indian Premier League However, nothing is able to prepare an team to deal with the emotional impact of personal tragedies. We all know that Punjab Kings (PBKS) are among the top players in the the IPL in 2026 which is currently in the top spot of the league as the only team to not lose. But, their momentum has been halted by a sad moment on the 27th of April 2026 in the wake of the tragic announcement that their mother, the most popular all-rounder Azmatullah Omarzai was killed in the line of duty. There are many sorrowful faces at the PBKS team as they unite to support their player through this trying time.

Heartbreak for Azmatullah Omarzai and the PBKS Camp
The announcement that Azmatullah Omarzai's mom's death was announced to the team on Tuesday and cast a shadow on the team's celebration of this season thus far. I was surprised to see that a number of team members and even the management of the franchise quickly offered their condolences. We all know that Omarzai the Afghan internationally renowned is an integral component of the Punjab Kings machine that has provided balance both with bat as well as ball.
Losing the parent of a child is a huge tragic loss, and this is especially true when you are far away from a professional event. It is my belief that the entire cricketing community, irrespective their team's loyalties, stands in support of Azmatullah as well as his family. As for the The PBKS social media handles will publish an official declaration in the near future, mirroring the empathy that we frequently observe within our "IPL family."
Will Azmatullah Omarzai Leave the IPL 2026 Midway?
The main question that is on everyone's head is whether the top player will be heading back to his homeland to spend time in the company of his children. Although Punjab Kings management have not yet officially announced his plans for travel however, I think it's very likely Azmatullah Omarzai is likely to be granted a leave of absence. It is a fact that athletes typically receive the right to take leave of absence for personal injuries.
Effect on Availability: Omarzai is likely to be absent from the match in the upcoming game against Kolkata Knight Riders.
Time of Absence: Depending on funeral ceremonies and personal grieving the deceased could be absent for a minimum of seven to ten days.
Return Prospects A lot of players opt to come back later in the season in a way to honor the ones they love, however it is completely up to the individual.
Tactical Significance: Filling the Void
From an analysis perspective from a professional perspective, losing Azmatullah Omarzai--even briefly--will be a major strategic blow to the PBKS. I've listed his contribution to the team's streak of unbeaten in the following paragraphs to illustrate the extent to which they'll need to change.
| Player Role | Contribution to PBKS Unbeaten Streak |
|---|---|
| Middle-Order Batter | provides stability and strength during the 16-20 over phase. |
| New-Ball Bowler | capable to swing the ball while taking the early wickets. |
| All-Round Utility | allows Punjab the ability to be additional spinners and batter. |
| Current Team Status | 1st on Points Table (4 Wins, 0 Losses) |
Professional Analysis: How PBKS Might Pivot
I am of the opinion that I think that the Punjab Kings coaching team will face a tough task replacing the balance Omarzai provides. We know that they're at the highest of the IPL 2026 rankings having the highest score of 1.067 net run Ratio. In order to maintain their dominance You can spot them watching their strengths on the bench.
Another possible replacement is found in their national all-rounder pool. Alternatively, they might change their international team to include a specialist bowler such as Marco Jansen for if he's included in the team and perhaps even encourage Marcus Stoinis into the bowling position more frequently. I have noticed that the PBKS has demonstrated tremendous solidarity throughout the season. They wore black armbands early during April to commemorate the those who died in the Vrindavan boat accident. The team's culture indicates that they will be supportive of Omarzai wholeheartedly regardless of how it influences their strategies on the field.
Final Thoughts and Condolences
It is my opinion that in moments like these, cricket gets the backseat. Azmatullah Omarzai has been an absolute pleasure to observe this season, providing a ferocious Afghan energy to IPL. The connection between the PBKS locker room is strong and the support of his teammates will be vital for the player.
Sincere condolences are extended towards Azmatullah Omarzai and his entire family. Although the crowd will be missing his absence from playing field main focus is his own well-being as well as the process of mourning. It is well-known that this IPL is an extremely long-running event, so there should be ample the time for him to return to playing when is he's fit. The "Sher Squad" is playing without a star however, they have a lot more determination.
